DC Strokes Rowing Programs

DC Strokes offers a number of rowing programs to fit your interest and availability. If you have no previous rowing experience, check out our Learn to Row Program. DC Strokes programs are open to all rowers, and we aspire foremost to create a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQ rowers and their allies.

Club Program

The Club Program rows four days a week in the early evenings and is for experienced rowers who want to continue to improve their technique and fitness without the demand of a more rigorous daily program. One year of previous rowing experience is required.

Competitive Program

The Competitive Program rows five days a week in the mornings and is for rowers interested in rigorous training and competition. One year of previous rowing experience is required.

Learn to Row

Get an introduction to the team sport of rowing and meet new friends. Strokes offers a gay-friendly environment and a welcoming community for all. Our Learn to Row (LTR) assumes no previous rowing experience.

Novice Program

The Novice Program is for those who completed the DC Strokes Learn to Row (or a comparable program at another rowing club) and want to continue developing skills and fitness. Practices are offered four days per week in the early evenings.

Dedicated Coxswains are an integral part of the team and critical to success on the water. Programs are free for dedicated coxswains. Contact the Programs Director for more information.

Student Membership

DC Strokes offers a Student Membership rate – 50% off program prices – to those enrolled full-time in college with valid proof of enrollment. Contact the Programs Director for more information, or to register.
