Virtual 2020 Stonewall Regatta: Row/Run/Ride!

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

DC Strokes Rowing Club has held a Masters sprint regatta for the last 27 years. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 regatta has been cancelled for the first time. While this was an important revenue source for our team, it was more importantly an opportunity to have a fun competition and to keep the spirit of camaraderie and competition alive!

Keeping active and a sense of community are more important now more than ever, so we are creating the Virtual 2020 Stonewall Regatta: Row/Run/Ride!

All entrants will get a commemorative Stonewall 2020 Row/Run/Ride Regatta t-shirt!

Motivation

Many members of the DC Strokes Family are quite sad that our beloved regatta won't be running on the water this year. This Row/Run/Ride regatta is our attempt to keep the Stonewall Regatta spirit alive in 2020! And if you want to show off how particularly fabulous you are while maintaining your fitness in a socially-distant way, be sure to check out the Proud Mary event!

As we have never run a virtual regatta before, we please ask for your patience if there are any hiccups or problems while we figure this all out. Remember this is all about having fun and building a sense of community!

To show your teammates and competitors how great you're doing in the competition, be sure to tag your social media postings with the hashtag #stonewallregatta on all our social media platforms:

Quaran-Team Challenge (Week-Long Event)

Individuals and Quaran-teams (pairs, fours, and eights) will row, run, or bike as much as they can for the week starting on the normal date for the Stonewall Regatta: 7 June 2020, and log them via the process below. Scoreboards will attempted to be updated daily. Points will be tallied for both individual and teams. Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Erging: 1 point per 2000 meters
  • Running/Walking: 1 point per 1600 meters
  • Biking: 1 point per 5000 meters

The winning individuals and teams will be awarded based on the total point tallies. The top 3 individuals and top 3 teams winners will receive awards. Depending on how many folks sign up, we may add age and gender divisions. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

See Rules and Eligibility for additional information.

Row/Run/Ride Sprint Triathlon (6 June or 7 June)

Enter as an individual or as a team! Our Erg/Ride/Run Triathlon consists of the following legs:

  • 2000 meter Row
  • 15 km Bike
  • 5 km Run

All triathlon legs for both individual and team events must be completed sequentially at some point during the first weekend (Saturday 6 June or Sunday 7 June) of Stonewall 2020. Choose the nicest day the weather forecast predicts! Or enter as an individual on one day and do it as a team the other!

Unlike in a swim/bike/run triathlon, we will not taking into account transition times. However, it must be obvious that all legs were completed sequentially without excessive transition time between legs. Be sure that your submissions indicate the time of day as well as the time it took to complete each leg.

Individuals: be sure to record your data/take a photo at the end of each leg (in such a way that the time of day is recorded) before starting the next leg.

Teams: All three participants must be ready! As soon as the rower has completed their leg and recorded their data, they text or phone the biker who is in place and ready to go. The process repeats for the bike to run transition. The team captain is responsible for collecting the data from each leg and submitting it.

Depending on how many folks sign up, we may add gender and age divisions as needed. There is a maximum of one entry in each category per person

Final race results will be posted as soon as possible on Monday 8 June. See Rules and Eligibility for more information.

1000 meter Rowing Sprint (7 June 2020)

Just like all the events at Stonewall: 1000 meter sprint, but now on a Concept2 rowing erg! Race 1000 meters on a Concept2 Indoor Rower (Model A-E rowers only, no Dynamic or indoor rowers on Slides). On the water meters are also acceptable, but you must observe the local social distancing requirements. Distance must be captured via a tracker, such as an app or device.

Categories:

We will be giving awards out for Mens, Womens, and Mixed boats in the following categories:
  • Singles
  • Pair/Doubles
  • Fours/Quads
  • Eights/Octuples

Times will be added together to determine the winner for 2/4/8-person races. One 1000m piece on the erg can count towards both individual and team entries. For example, if you've entered as a single, a four, and an eight, you'll only have to sit down and erg a single 1000m piece.

Depending on how many folks sign up, we may add age divisions as needed. There is a maximum of one entry in each category per person.

See Rules and Eligibility for more information.

Proud Mary

To maximize the spirit of the Stonewall Regatta while we're all social-distancing, we'll be giving awards to the top three Instagram video submissions showing how you're staying fabulous while staying fit during the pandemic.  Be sure to tag both @dcstrokesrowing and use the hashtag #stonewallregatta.

Judging will be performed by a panel of DC Strokes volunteers!

Send us a link to your submission (remember... if you're using Instagram it your submission should be a posting, not a story) via email to stonewall2020@dcstrokes.org by 23:59 EDT on Friday 12 June 2020. Winners will be announced on Sunday 14 June 2020!
