Learn to Row Program

Are you someone who has never rowed before and is interested in learning? Our Learn to Row Program is for people with zero experience or knowledge of rowing. See below for more information regarding this year's program.

Learn to Row

Program Details

Our Learn to Row Program is a six-week program that is a great way to get an introduction to the sport of rowing. It's also an excellent way to experience the DC rowing community. During the program, you will learn:

In it, you will learn:

  • Boat and rowing terminology

  • The basics of the sweep rowing stroke

  • How to row properly on an ergometer (erg)

  • Stretching and fitness tips

  • How to row together as a crew

  • Practice drills

  • How to stay safe on land and on the water

Program Fees: $325

Program Location: The Anacostia Community Boathouse

You can find all of options we are providing this year below. Please note that space is limited for our LTR program, so be sure and secure you spot in the next class. If you are unable to join any of the below sessions, we do offer additional sessions later on in the summer if there is a high level of interest. 

Part A (four weeks or three weekends)

Session 1

April 27th - May 20th, 

Monday & Wednesday
6:00 PM - 8:00PM

Session 2

April 28th - May 21st

Tuesday & Thursday
6:00 PM - 8:00PM

Session 3

May 2nd - May 17th

Saturday & Sunday
8:30 AM - 11:30AM

Part B (two weeks)

May 25th - June 4th

All sessions will be merged and row for two more weeks. Practices will be offered Monday - Thursday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. You decide which nights to come, but at least two practices per week are encouraged.

Session 4 will be offered in late June with sufficient demand, following Pride weekend (June 20 - 21), schedule TBD. If you are interested in Session 4, please email LearnToRow@dcstrokes.org to be put on the waitlist.

Registration

Registration Instructions:

  1. Create an account on Boathouse Connect, our club management software.

  2. After you have logged in and finished the account creation process, click on the Groups dropdown in the left-side navigation bar. Then click My Groups.

  3. You will see a list of groups.

  4. Click on the preferred 2026 Learn to Row Session. Then click Join Group.​

  5. You're done! The payment method that you entered during account creation will be charged the registration fee. You don't need to do anything else.
